Cliff Lee | SP | Philadelphia Phillies vs. Cincinnati Reds | $9,500

Today’s pitching matchups provide an array of interesting and risky prospects, particularly when you examine their asking price.

Leading the rankings are the big names of Felix Hernandez, David Price, Cliff Lee and James Shields while a number of upstart yet inconsistent names follow, namely Andrew Cashner and Jesse Chavez.

However, when you delve further into the matchups the decision becomes significantly more difficult.

Hernandez, Price and Shields have not performed up to their expectations of late while Chavez and Cashner have stumbled in their last few starts.

In the end, Cliff Lee stands out among the varied options as a strong choice at $9,500.

Despite posting a 3.23 ERA, Lee’s numbers have been inflated by two tough outings on the road – surrendering eight earned runs to Texas in his first start and six earned runs in Toronto two weeks ago.

His performances at home have been a different story as he is posting a 1.55 ERA and 1.14 WHIP with 33 strikeouts and just four walks.

To make Lee’s matchup even more attractive, he will be facing the Cincinnati Reds, the third lowest scoring team in the major leagues.

Edwin Encarnacion | 1B | Toronto Blue Jays at Texas Rangers | $4,200

The hard-hitting first baseman for the Toronto Blue Jays has had an interesting start to the season to say the least.

His power and hits have come in bursts but it’s clear to see that his talent and ability to hit the long ball are still there.

Thursday night, Encarnacion went yard twice while driving in three runs and hitting safely in three of his four at bats.

Less than two weeks ago, he had yet another two homerun night giving him four long balls in three games.

Encarnacion faces Nick Martinez and the Texas Rnagers tonight in what could prove to be a huge night for the Blue Jays’ offense.

Martniez will be making this third start of the year.

Although he has been excellent in his relief appearances, he has posted a 4.09 ERA in his first two starts this season while walking more batters than he has struck out.

Considering the opposing pitcher and the hitter-friendly ballpark, Encarnacion provides immense value for only $4,200.

Hunter Pence | OF | San Francisco Giants vs. Miami Marlins | $3,700

Few players in the league have had a better hitting week than Hunter Pence of the San Francisco Giants.

In his past five games, Pence is 11 for 23 with five runs, one homerun and three RBIs and raised his average over 25 points in the same amount of time.

Although his power numbers are slightly down on the year, his hot hitting ways of late are surely a positive sign for daily fantasy baseball players looking to get a bargain today.

Pence will face Jacob Turner and the Miami Marlins today.

For as good as the Marlins’ starting pitching has been this year, Turner has been the exception.

Posting an astronomical 6.75 ERA and 1.69 WHIP, Turner has only struck out eight batters all year while allowing 36 base runners over 21.1 innings.

Look for Pence to have a huge game against this struggling Miami pitcher.
