FanDuel High Value Daily Fantasy Baseball Picks – April 22, 2014

| April 22, 2014 | 0 Comments

Jose Fernandez SP Miami Marlins

Jose Fernandez | SP | Miami Marlins at Atlanta Braves | $9,700

Although Fernandez certainly comes at a premium price, the 21-year-old sensation faces a very favorable matchup tonight against an offensively challenged Atlanta Braves team.

The Braves rank 22nd in the league in runs scored and have relied exclusively on their pitching thus far as they lead the NL East.

The low-scoring offense of Atlanta should provide the ideal opportunity for Jose Fernandez to continue his success in 2014 as he proves to be one of the best pitchers in the game.

Through four games this season, Fernandez has posted a 2.66 ERA and 1.10 WHIP with 33 strikeouts and just six walks.

Simply put, Fernandez is one of the most talented starting pitchers in the game and remains as close to a “sure thing” as you can find in daily fantasy baseball formats.

His premium price tag is more than justified when you see his results.

Jed Lowrie | SS | Oakland A’s vs. Texas Rangers | $3,500

The ever-consistent shortstop for the A’s has been on a tear of late, hitting safely in four of his last five games with three multi-hit games, six runs, one homerun and two RBIs.

Unlike Fernandez, Lowrie is purely a value pick with a high upside at $3,500. As the sixth ranked shortstop in today’s matchups, Lowrie provides an ideal opportunity to get production at a fraction of the premium price.

In addition to his great play of late, Lowrie faces the recently called up Nicholas Martinez.

Despite a decent start in his major league debut earlier this year, Martinez is unproven at a major league level and lacks the speed and control to dominate hitters.

We recommend taking advantage of this favorable matchup at a portion of the price of the top rated shortstops in today’s games.

The savings can be used elsewhere to pay for premium pitching such as Jose Fernandez or elite offensive power at other positions.

Buster Posey | C | San Francisco Giants at Colorado Rockies | $3,200

Similar to Lowrie, Posey is due for a big day against a struggling starting pitcher in a notoriously hitter-friendly ballpark.

Although Posey has had a difficult time at the plate to start the season, this incredibly talented catcher is sure to catch fire soon.

There is no better time than now as Posey faces Franklin Morales and the Rockies this evening.

Morales has been inconsistent at best this year, racking up a 4.82 ERA and 1.50 WHIP through 18.2 innings pitched.

Most importantly, Morales was rocked in his only start at Coors Field this season, giving up six earned runs, eight hits and four walks to the White Sox in 6.1 innings on April 8th.

Look for Posey to take advantage of Morales this evening as he looks to break out of his early season struggles.
