FanDuel High Value Daily Fantasy Baseball – April 24, 2014

Scott Kazmir SP Oakland As

Scott Kazmir | SP | Oakland A’s at Houston Astros | $7,600

With a host of big name pitchers slated to take the mound today, Scott Kazmir’s fantastic start to the season may be flying under the radar of many daily fantasy baseball players on FanDuel.

Picked as a sleeper by many during the pre-season, Kazmir has not disappointed those who took a late-round risk on the 30-year-old ace.

In his first year with the upstart A’s, Kazmir has posted an outstanding 1.65 ERA and 0.77 WHIP with 24 strikeouts through 27.1 innings.

Kazmir faces an incredibly favorable matchup against the Houston Astros who have scored only 64 runs this season – second worst in all of baseball.

Furthermore, they rank last in the league in on-base percentage and batting average.

It’s hard to imagine Kazmir having much difficulty against this struggling offense.

Take advantage of his discounted price while you can, as Kazmir will likely cost significantly more next week when he takes the mound.

Yasiel Puig | OF | Los Angeles Dodgers vs. Philadelphia Phillies | $3,700

The frequently maligned Puig has spent much of his young career in the majors inspiring awe on the field while leaving many shaking their head due to his work ethic and off-the-field antics.

His start to the 2014 season has been inconsistent at best but there is no denying the pure raw talent of the 23-year-old Cuban defector.

Despite his .254 average, Puig has reached base safely in nine of his last ten games and faces the erratic Kyle Kendrick today.

Look for Puig to continue his hitting streak and take advantage of Kendrick’s inconsistency.

Brian Dozier | 2B | Minnesota Twins at Tampa Bay Rays | $3,400

While a quick glance at Dozier’s average might suggest a poor pick for your lineup today, a closer look at his numbers indicates that the talented young second baseman for the Twins has found his swing in a big way over the last two weeks – reaching base in 16 of the previous 17 games with 19 runs, 6 homeruns and 8 RBIs.

A matchup against Erik Bedard should see his streak continue today.

The 35-year-old former elite pitcher has recently made the move from the bullpen with little success for his new team.

Brought back into the starting rotation due to Alex Cobb’s injury, Bedard lasted only 3.2 innings against the Yankees on April 18, surrendering six hits, one walk and four earned runs while striking out three hitters.

Bedard remains a shell of the pitcher he once was and will provide the ideal opportunity for Dozier to have a big game against a miserable Twins’ team.
