FanDuel Daily Fantasy Baseball Picks – April 20, 2014

Evan Longoria 3B Tampa Bay Rays

With a full slate of early games on Sunday, your options for daily fantasy baseball lineup picks are full of ripe opportunities.

In order to help you with your selections, we’ve provided a list of three players who are certain to lead you to victory today.

Jesse Chavez | SP | Oakland A’s vs. Houston Astros | $4,900

Through three games this season, Jesse Chavez has had one of the most surprising starts of any starting pitcher this year.

With a total of 20 innings pitched, Chavez has allowed just three earned runs while striking out 22 opposing hitters and allowing just two walks.

His career numbers are significantly worse than those that he is posting this year so a regression should be expected at some point in the future.

However, his hot start combined with a matchup against one of the lowest scoring teams in baseball should provide an ideal opportunity for daily fantasy baseball players to take advantage of his low price tag and bolster their offense with the savings.

Evan Longoria | 3B | Tampa Bay Ray vs. New York Yankees | $4,300

Of all the favorable matchups for today’s early slate of games, the Rays’ game against Vidal Nuno and the New York Yankees may very well be the best of them all.

Nuno has allowed seven runs and ten base runners over 4.2 innings this year and is making his second start of the season today.

Selecting any of the Rays’ offensive players is a solid play today but Evan Longoria has the best chance to have a monstrous day against this struggling pitcher.

After a slow second week of the season, Longoria has turned things around of late with five hits in the past two games.

Although he comes with a high cost, Longoria’s success against lefthanders and his extremely favorable matchup should more than justify paying a premium for this highly talented third baseman.

Joey Votto | 1B | Cincinnati Reds at Chicago Cubs | $4,500

Similar to Longoria, the Reds’ hard-hitting first baseman is poised for a big day against Carlos Villanueva and the Chicago Cubs at Wrigley Field this afternoon.

Villanueva ranks among the leagues worst starters through the first three weeks of the season, posting an atrocious 11.57 ERA and 2.14 WHIP in four pitching appearances.

As the fifth starter on a struggling pitching staff, Villanueva is in danger of losing his starting role if he continues to struggle.

Votto has started off the season exactly where he left off last season, hitting for an average of .322 with four homeruns, nine RBIs and eleven runs through seventeen games.

He continues to prove that he is one of the most consistent hitters in the game and should feast on the struggling Villanueva tomorrow at Wrigley Field.

Don’t let the high price tag scare you, Votto is well worth the cost today.
